Poppy Bending
Poppy Bending
silkscreen with embroidery
14x17", 2024
float-mounted and framed in 16x20" white frame
California poppies are bright spots of sunshine dotting the landscape in April and May, and they were especially inspiring when I found a patch of them next to my parking spot the first day of my residency at Kala in May.
In this version, there is a silkscreen monoprint: handpainted ink directly to a rough mesh that is squeegeed down onto paper, followed by a traditional silkscreen of bending geometric patterns. I added embroidery for texture and to highlight the straightforward pattern with the bent one.
